Wisconsin Senate Bills -

  • SB 561 This bill, if enacted as is, would require driver education courses to also acquaint each student with the hazards of leaving young children unattended in vehicles, of motor vehicle blind spots, of backing motor vehicles around small children, and of accidental activation of power windows and to provide instruction in safely dealing with such hazards.
    • Introduced on March 4, 2008 − Introduced by Senators HANSEN, BRESKE and CARPENTER, cosponsored by Representatives SOLETSKI, NELSON, HAHN, GRONEMUS, HRAYCHUCK, BENEDICT, RICHARDS, BOYLE, TURNER and BERCEAU. Referred to Committee on Transportation and Tourism.

    • Amendments offered by the Committee on Transportation and Tourism, (Mar. 5, 2008):

      1. Page 2, line 7: delete “AND DATABASE”.

      2. Page 3, line 16: delete “a one−page informational sheet” and substitute

      “information”.

      3. Page 3, line 18: delete “and”.

      NOTE:  SB 561 passed in Committee in Mid March 2008, but never got to a floor vote.  It is very likley it will be revisited in the next legislative session.

 

  • SB- 240:  BILL WOULD RESTRICT TEENS’ USE OF CELL PHONES WHILE DRIVING

    A handful of legislators have signed on to a bill to prohibit the use of cell phones by 16- and 17-year-olds while operating a car or motorcycle. The proposal (SB-240) would apply to holders of instructional permits and probationary licenses. The penalty for violating the prohibition would be a $50 forfeiture for the first offense and not less than $50 nor more than $100 for each subsequent offense.

     Lead sponsor on the bill is Sen. Luther Olsen. Other senators co-sponsoring the proposal are: Darling, Lassa, Lehman, Roessler and Taylor. Rep. Petrowski is the lead Assembly co-sponsor, joined by Reps. Albers, Benedict, Berceau, Bies, Cullen, Hahn, Hines, Jeskewitz, Molepske, A. Ott, Seidel, Smith, Townsend, Travis, Van Roy, Vos and Zepnick. The bill was referred to the Senate Transportation, Tourism and Insurance Committee.

 

 

 

 


 

Laws Enacted

 

Wisconsin's Move Over Law 343.072 enacted in 2001  and effective September 1, 2008 are Driver Education instructional requirements to include instruction about teh Move Over Law, (ACT 68). 

Note:  ACT 68 - Enacted 3/11/08; Publication Date 3/25/08.  The law takes effect/starts on the first day of the of the 6th month following the publication date (Thus law starts on September 1, 2008).
