New DE Requirement Enacted - 30 Minutes of Instruction on RR Grade Crossing Safety
ACT 64 - Although teaching about RR Grade Crossings is
already a required topic that all Wisconsin DE programs are required to provide instruction about, the legislature rceenetly passed a Bill that was signed by the Giovernor which will require a minimum of 30 minutes of instructionon be provided to the subject.
On November 12, Governor James Doyle signed into law ACT 64. The law takes effect March 1, 2010. All Wisconsin DE programs starting on (or thereafter) will be required to include a minimum of
30 minutes of instruction about Railroad Crossing Safety.

Before the Wheel Safe Teen Driving Newsletter
The Fall/Winter 2009/2010 Before The WheelTM safe teen driving newsletter is available to high school driver education instructors and driver education schools for distribution to parents and teens.
The Before The WheelTM newsletter is sponsored by West Bend Mutual Insurance Company. The newsletter is a free publication and there is no fee to distribute the publication.

2009/2010 MSG 2 TEENS Program
Fox 47 MSN TV is again sponsoring (for the third Year) a Teen Safe Driving Campaign called "MSG 2 TEENS".
The Wisconsin DOT's Bureau of Transportation Safety is a partner and co-sponsor as well. Fox 47 is seeking partnership of a major Insurance company and hoping to hear if that company will become a major sponsor for the 2009/2010 campaign.
Eligible schools must be in the FOX 47 TV - Madison viewing area.

Dear Safety Education Colleague -
Children's Health Education Center is pleased to partner with Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Ford to offer a seat belt safety project for teens. The seat belt project consists of an unannounced seat belt observation in the school parking lot, a week of education activities in the school, and an announced follow-up seat belt observation.
For more information, or to apply for a grant of up to $250 and the tools you need to get started, please go to www.bluekids.org/cruisecontrol. Complete the application form and email it back. Funding will be awarded in the order applications are received.

FY 2009/2010 Online Driver Education Program Approval Applications
- As of 8 a.m. on 3/31/09, the FY 2009/2010 Online Driver Education Program Approval Applications were launched and were ready for districts to complete.
- May 15 is the deadline for any programs offering 2009 summer instruction, or summer and school year instruction; and ...
- August 15 is the deadline for school-year-only programs.
- Districts are to use the same passcodes/passwords as in FY 2008/2009. Passcode/password information will be e-mailed to the e-mail addreses of the identified FY 08/09 primarty contacts for each of the districts that offered De in FY 08/09.
- After completing the online application, click the submit button; you then will be asked if you are sure you wish to submit the data. Click "yes" and your data will then be electronically
submitted
- Once the data has been electronically submitted, remember to go back to the menu and request an
"Application Summary."
- When the application summary appears on the screen, print a copy.
- Have the hard copy signed and dated by the District Superintendent.
- Finally, mail the signed and dated Program Application Summary (PI 1709) in to the DPI. (Note: The DPI address is in the upper right hand cornerof the application summary.
- A copy will be returned to the district Superintendent's office along with needed PI 1714 forms (student course comepltion certificates).
